Ah I see, I haven't been to LQ for about 14 or 15 yrs, went about 3 times with Gary (dunno which one, but he lived in Stevenage at the time) and TOB, what a pair of jokers. Even had Spug and his mates on one trip when he was about 20 long before he was famous, god what a joker.

Ah just seen gary (the one I'm on about) in this months c/w with TOB in the osprey advert, looks like he's aged a bit. but then so have I!!

I can scan in a couple of pics of him and TOB from my first ever LQ trip 15yrs ago. Dunno where they are but I'll have to dig em out.

I borrowed some off Gary whilst fishing the back of bear last year and do the job when you fishing in snags!

Joss correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to be in the know with all their gear.

What is the tubing really like, I've read the website, but do you really rate it that highly?

I'm ditching leadcore due to all the fuss and I'm looking for an alternative, how good is this gear?

I'm a massive fan of leadcore and alwalys will be, but certain venues you cant use it, so i switch to tubing. The Clear Osprey tubing i dont like, the brown is extreemly good, and threading line/braid even when wet is exeptional. i do rate it highly, but i still pin it down with putty or a bit of leadwire...just to be on the safe side.

How far out are you fishing?
If less that 60-70 yards consider this.

20lb xline main line, take 12 inches or so of leadcore and remove the lead inner. Poke a splicing needle into the outer sheath and burn the edges with a lighter whilst moving the needle. This will stop the edges fraying and keep the sheath open. Thread a JRC helicopter bead and an ESP rubber onto the 'linecore'

Now thread your mainline though the sheath as you would tubing and out the other end. Now tie the line and sheath to your lead and trim off the tag end etc. You now have a leadcore leader without leadcore and needle knots etc for weed etc to snag on.

The xline will sink but just to be sure rub the sheath through a folded over piece of heavy metal putty. Sorted

osprey tubeing does not sink properly with out the aid of putty or lead, ive tried it

Ive used the osprey tubing alot and haven't had any issues but then I always use putty on me tubing

Thanks Joss, that's good info.

And thanks Spence for that too.

I've decided to ditch my leadcore due to too many horror stories, I love the stuff, and I don't think we will ever find anything quite as good.

But I also beleive that it won't be long before it is banned evrywhere and therefore I am gonna try and get sorted with a new setup that I'm comfortable and confident with before the bans come in, that way I'm not playing catch-up,

Another good tip for pinning your line down that I use, is lead wire and shrink tubing, slide 3 or 4 peices of shrink tube over your main line, get them where you want them and insert a small peice of lead wire, then shrink it down.

I started doing this as I kept finding my putty slipping or coming off altogether.

The new "Airstick" will be in the shops at £24.99 at the end of this month, its the best stick ive come across, and if you dont take my word for it, lee Jackson said "this is by far the best throwing stick ive ever used or come across, ever angler will benifit form one of these"

Its an alloy composite, very light, throws bait as far as you'd need it to go, and ive found it to be very accurate with little effort.
