Hi Spence.
Firstly, may I take the opportunity to say that the following is in no way meant to be a moan or dig at anybody ref the DDAPS unhooking mat / bin liner rule. Now on to my reason for selling the mat. In my humble opinion it's a cracking mat. Good & big with a lot of nice protective padding. But due to it's size I just can't be doing with taping 3 wheelie bin liners to cover the mat & another 2 to cover the protective flap. I appreciate that DDAPS have the plastic bag rule & I fully accept it but it is such a shame that (in my humble opinion) the welfare of our fish in jeopardized in as much as we can't provide the levels of protection we would like ie huge mats or carp cradles, without having to resort to bin liners. In fact there are some great mats on the market which I don't think it would be reasonably practical to enclose in a bin bag. I know & fully accept the reasoning behind the bag rule (if I didn't I would have raised the matter at the AGM as can others) However, I didn't as I don't feel that strongly about it because my current mats (I use two, one on top of the other) fit quite easily inside two decent wheelie bin liners thus ensuring I am able to comply with club rules. However there have been odd occasions when fish have flapped about & slid off the mat due I am certain to the surface upon which they were laying ie a slippery plastic bag upon which I proceed to pour a couple of jugs of water to protect the fish from drying out. I feel sure a bigger mat would have offered more protection due to its larger surface area, but where do you draw the line. Having said all that it is a nice mat & it's a shame to sell it, but there you go thats life. Hope this makes sense. More to the point I hope it doesn't kick off some form of argument regarding the bin bag rule, because that is not my intention, rather I was just trying to give an open & honest answer to the question raised earlier about why I was looking to get rid of the mat,
regards John
